We are pleased to announce that Andrea Gjestvang has joined Panos Pictures.

Andrea currently bases herself between Berlin and Oslo. For the past few years, her focus has been on the North, where she explores the intimate life and resilience of people living in remote and inaccessible environments. Her work has a strong political view, rooted in the social and anthropological issues related to globalisation, identity and cultural uniqueness.

In 2010, Andrea was selected as a participant in the Joop Swart Masterclass organised by World Press Photo. Between 2011-2013, she was part of the Norwegian Journal of Photography, a program supporting 10 independent documentary photographers in Norway. In 2012, Andrea was named one of PDN’s 30 New and Emerging Photographers to Watch. Her work has been exhibited in galleries and at photo festivals worldwide including the Ullens Center for Contemporary Art in Beijing, Menotrentuno_03 in Sardinia, Galeria Open Mind in Milan, New York Photo Festival and Lumix Festival in Hannover.

Over the years, Andrea has been awarded several prizes, including Picture of the Year Norway 2012 and the prestigious L’Iris d’Or /Sony World Photography Awards’ Photographer of the Year 2013. Her work has been supported by grants provided by the Norwegian Freedom of Speech Foundation. In 2012, she launched her first book En dag i historian published by Pax. Her clients and publications include Newsweek, National Geographic, Stern Magazine, Suddeutsche Zeitung Magazin, M Le Monde, D La Republica, Internazionale, Verdens Gang, Plot and many others.
