A view of Poland, gripped by one of the coldest and snowiest winters on record, from the air~~During the winter of 2010/11, much of northern Europe was gripped by an intense freeze which sent temperatures plummeting to record lows. Poland saw lows of almost -30 degrees Celsius with much of the country blanketed by a thick layer of snow, causing chaos on roads, airports, railways and in ports. 18 people died of exposure in Poland alone, many more across the continent. ~~Kacper Kowalski took to the skies above Poland to gain a vantage point over the country gripped by the harsh winter. The few specks of colour in these images - a yellow bus on an empty country road, a red tractor in a forest clearing - are the only signs of human activity in this monochrome landscape. The tracks left by vehicles on roads, fields and industrial estates trace geometric shapes into the unbroken snow cover and fine slivers track the movements of ships through frozen waterways.
