Panos Profile photographer Abbie Trayler-Smith has been nominated for the Taylor Wessing portrait prize for her picture of Chelsea, above. The image is from Abbie’s new long-term project on childhood obesity.

Explaining how the picture came about, Abbie said: ‘I looked away to change the film in my camera. When I looked back, the picture was suddenly there. I shot one frame.’

The picture is one of four shortlisted for the £12,000 first prize. An exhibition featuring 60 of the best portraits from the 6,000 submissions will run at the National Portrait Gallery in London from 11 November 2010 to 20 February 2011.
