On August 6th1995, while preparing the usual Sunday meal for her family, Mirjana didn’t know that she would soon be forced to flee her home in Croatia and find refuge across the border, along with tens of thousands of other ethnic Serbs.
Now that she is back home, Mirjana recalls that difficult journey while she visits her husband’s grave along the same road she once travelled as a refugee.
Working in partnership with the International Rescue Committee (IRC) and the European Commission’s Humanitarian Aid and Civil Protection department (ECHO), seven Panos photographers asked refugees and survivors of disaster in seven communities across the globe what home means to them.
