Hemi’s kids love Bollywood movies, they watch them at her brother’s house and when the DVDs become damaged Hemi nails them up to her wall at home. Her house is beautiful, she makes her own bedspreads and intricately decorated shelving, but after heavy rainfall and widespread flooding two years ago she had to rebuild it all from foundation to roof with her own hands.
Working in partnership with the International Rescue Committee (IRC) and the European Commission’s Humanitarian Aid and Civil Protection department (ECHO), seven Panos photographers asked refugees and survivors of disaster in seven communities across the globe what home means to them.
