40% of crops are lost to pests worldwide. For over 2 billion smallholder farmers in the world, these crops are a vital source of food and income for their families.
The Plantwise Programme, an initiative from the Centre for Agriculture and Biosciences International (CABI) is changing this story. The programme works to help farmers lose less of what they grow to plant health problems.

Working with national agricultural advisory services CABI has helped to establish sustainable networks of plant clinics, run by trained plant doctors, where farmers can find practical plant health advice. The Plantwise programme was officially launched in 2011.

Eduardo Martino visited one such Plantwise clinic with Avocado farmer Animal Matencio Alarcon in Peru.
