Six Panos photographers have been recognised for their work at this year’s Pictures of the Year (POY) awards – a contest overseen by the University of Missouri and National Press Photographers Association (NPPA) since 1957.
Cinzia Canneri won the World Understanding Award for her groundbreaking work on sexual violence in Ethiopia and Eritrea.

Onur Coban won both an Award of Excellence and the First Prize in the Environmental Vision and Science and Natural History Picture Story sections respectively for his work on sinkholes in rural Turkey.

Santiago Mesa was a Finalist in the Issue Reporting Picture Story section for his work on coca production in Colombia.

Ivan Kashinsky won an Award of Excellence in the Science and Natural History category for his work on the aftermath of the Pacific Palisades fire in California.

and another Award of Excellence in the Daily LIfe Picture Story section for his work on ‘Spaghetti Cumbia’, an LA fusion band.

And Akos Stiller won another Award of Excellence in the same category for his work on Ukraine.
